My job is to capture its personality
in a photograph you'll never forget.
My name is Meir Gur, and I've been photographing dogs for almost 10 years.
It started with my own dogs, simply because I enjoyed photographing them. With time, photography became a bigger and bigger part of my life, until eventually it became my profession.
Today I photograph dogs, teach photographers and lead workshops across Europe. I get to meet a ridiculous number of dogs, travel a lot, and teach what I've learned over the years. And somehow, even after almost 10 years, I still never feel like I have to get up in the morning and go to work.
The best photos happen when you stop asking the dog to be perfect
In my photography, everything starts before I press the shutter. The dog, the light, the location, the angle and the background all need to work together.
I don't expect dogs to behave like professional models. I work with the dog I have in front of me, and the owner is always part of the process. When we all work together, almost anything is possible.
Editing is a big part of my style, and I love that part too, but I don't want Photoshop to do the photographer's job.
The expression, the moment and the connection have to be there first.
At the end of the day, I want you to enjoy the photos, but also the experience of creating them. Bring your dog, some treats, and leave the rest to me.
